Curriculum Offer

Our English Curriculum Offers have been divided into reading and writing to give a clear insight into our philosophy behind our teaching approach and our effective practices for delivering inspiring and engaging English lessons.

OUR ENGLISH VISION

READING VISION

‘You can find magic wherever you look,

Sit, back relax,

All you need is a book.’

-Dr. Seuss

At Sedgeberrow C of E First School we value reading as an essential skill at the heart of all learning and we aim for our children to quickly acquire secure phonic knowledge, word recognition and word meaning so that they become competent, confident and independent readers who enjoy exploring the world of books.  We can then build on these reading skills by exposing them to a wider range of authors and texts, so they become accomplished readers who turn to a book to gain knowledge, further their learning or for pure enjoyment. We want our children to relax with a book and find that magic!

WRITING VISION

At Sedgeberrow CE First School we believe that every child is a writer and should be given a plethora of opportunities to write across the curriculum starting from Reception so that they can learn to communicate facts, express feelings and convey their creative ideas through the written word. We aim for all children to gain the ‘nuts and bolts’ knowledge for their programme of study so that they know how to form sentences correctly, use grammatical conventions with effect, punctuate sentences and be able to spell words with accuracy. Alongside the fine-tuning of the ‘nuts and bolts’, we aim for our children to explore writing for different purposes and audiences while developing their own imaginative and creative ideas.
